My re-election campaign was endorsed by Newsday. Vote #SolagesAD22 on Tuesday November 6th. 💻📲🗞📰 By Newsday Editorial Board Updated October 18, 2018 8:00 PM
Michaelle C. Solages has come a long way in her three terms in Albany. The Elmont Democrat pointed to her work as the chairwoman of the Task Force on New Americans, where she has been a voice for immigrants, particularly in pushing back against abuses by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. And her passion for children led her to push for legislation that forces insurance to cover donor breast milk — language that ended up in this year’s budget. She also has fought for her district, getting money for music programs in schools and public safety and pushing for Kennedy Airport’s redevelopment to include a local hiring component.
Solages, 33, has become more nuanced in her thinking, especially regarding development at Belmont Park. She also is focused on the future of the racetrack itself. She should continue to balance her desire for expanded Long Island Rail Road service and community benefits with the need for new economic development.
Republican Gonald Moncion also ran against Solages four years ago. The Valley Stream resident is a school guidance counselor who said he’d like more money to come into the district for after-school programs. He opposes the Belmont development, saying he’d rather see a swimming pool or soccer field. Solages presents a broader view of development.
Newsday endorses Solages. #elmont #valleystream #franklinsquare #floralpark #bellerose

People of Sip This: The man on the right owns one of the best local restaurants in Nassau County called @truffle_restaurant_and_bar His name is Raed (Pronounced Reed) and he’s been coming here every morning to grab his Cappuccino before work since they’ve opened. Often he can be found chatting with our buddy @stankoart about anything from food to art. He is a classically trained French chef who has worked at the Garden City Hotel and the Allegria hotel in Long Beach. His food is exquisite but not overly complicated. Many of us from Sip have enjoyed wonderfully delicious meals there and never has there been a sour note in his symphony. If you’re looking to treat yourself to some top shelf food head on over to his place, tell them we sent you.
