Continuing on the wood graining of the metallic door, once the first step was dried, I did the other glazing. I like to use a small rabbit food roller to apply the glaze, it allows me to work section by section wet on wet. I added darker area with a small soft layer brush to create contrast and reinforce the cut mark. I used a Spalter @fauxbrushes, for the moire. Used a small Fitch to do the “cats eyes “ Let the door dry overnight and did I the trompe l oeil. ( next post). The entire operation: base coat, tracing and layout, flogging, graining, overglazing and first coat of varnish was done in a day ( set up, priming, base coat1 was done the afternoon before. I will be teaching an other class in March @fauxbrushes #decopaint #woodgraining #fauxbois #lovemyjob #bestjobiveeverhave #ontherun #actylicglaze

I had to wood grain in mahogany a metal fire exit door in an office last week. We primed in Styx primer water based after having washed the door with acetone. 2 coats of h20 base coat. Once traced ( will post soon). Flooded with acrylic and proceeded with the first glazing in golden pro. Applied a tinted coat and added streaks of slow drying acrylic to create color difference , then with a tooth sprayer @fauxbrushes I sketch the figure , whole wet opened up the glaze with a sable 2 header and finished the sides with a wood 3 header. Smooth toward the heart to create a shadow. Let dry and continue the other section. All done on the same day. #decopaint #woodgraining. #door #alwayshan
