(This poem isn’t a confession as it may seem neither is it a taunt to government and us for not fighting enough to provide justice. This poem is for those who still can’t gather themselves to raise their voice about the horrors they faced.) Under the blanket there I was
Scared and shivering,
I started to hate every single soul
Yet never came in front and shared my suffering. “ #METOO” was the current internet sensation
Everyone came out of the dark and wrote,
“ #METOO” with a paragraph shadowed
Or just in a quote.
Seemed as everyone was getting that courage
Women were sharing their pains and sorrow,
Now is the time to fight for the freedom
Hopes are it will get better tomorrow.
If you notice keenly
Not every women came in front
I too typed my story but couldn’t share
As those memories still haunt.
I remember the full sleeved clothes I wore
Enough for a little girl to hide from the world,
But those sickening expressions
Wearing a jacket too made me feel cold.
Those devilish eyes I still remember
How it made me feel naked,
Not knowing what it was
On my face was a smile that I faked. “Shh… You are a big girl now, come on.” My mind still repeat these words in disgust,
His filthy hands touching all over my body
And his mucky eyes full of lust.
No more hiding in the dark
Today I am not feeling embarrassed,
Now I have the courage to admit
Yes, I was sexually harassed.
