Arctic icebergs were a big source of inspiration for our Winter '19 branding. Soft cremes with pops of cool blue shapes & curves, like those of an iceberg drifting, dancing, catching light. 💙We were immediately drawn to Velvet Vision, the latest collection of work by @peachesthestudio. I think it's the soft and minimalist colours and curves, set against the dry crackling Earth — a perfect balance. They spent a week in the Alvord Desert capturing this collection, which is best described as "a body of work consisting of performance, conceptual, and functional ceramic ware." Can't say we didn't warn ya! 😚 Here's a few of the questions we're asked most often: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀○ Where does the event take place? We're an online event! 🎉 The pop-up is essentially a big marketplace shop where customers can browse quality handmade goods by category and themed collections.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀○ When is the Winter '19 show? While in the past we've always run for 12 days, this round the shop will be live for a full month, from Nov. 1st-30th.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀○ Do I have to be based in Canada or the US to participate? Artists applicants are open internationally. Such is the beauty of an online global market! 💫⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀○ I've never sold my work before - can I still apply? -or- I don't have a website - can I still apply? Yes! We welcome artists in all stages of their career. If you don't have a website, please ensure you're attaching strong photos with your application so we can still easily review your work and establish if it will be a good fit for our audience.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀○ What do you look for in an artist? As with any curated show, there is a general aesthetic to be observed. Have a look at our Instagram, website, and past artist directories to see what kind of work we have represented. We came across the work of @paper_theory the other day and we're itching to try our hand at some of their modern minimalist patterns. ☁️We love looping back on past participants to see what they're up to these days. @christinaeveartist, you continue to amaze us with the depth of your work - always pushing the limits to bring people into your way of seeing and experiencing the world around you. Christina's current body of work 'SLEEP/WAKE' explores the hypnagogic state, which is that hazy space between sleep and wakefulness. "l'll get ready for bed, and then lay down in the dark with my headphones on. I'll loop the song and watch as the synesthetic imagery becomes sharper, deeper, and more vivid. Because all other sensory distractions are gone, and my busy mind is turned "off" in the hypnogogic state the synesthetic photisms become beautifully clear."We love watching the late summer shadows dance across the wall. The early morning air is growing crisp, and the sun sleeps in just a little while longer these days. It's always bitter sweet as we soak up the last weeks of August and prepare for fall, but the changing seasons means Handmade Pop-Up Winter '19 is near! Apps are open for just 3 more weeks!
