“After a Sunday brunch, we took our puppies for a walk in Melbourne’s Albert Park,” describes Ako Kondo of the moment her partner, fellow ballerina at The Australian Ballet, Chengwu Gu, proposed. “Our toy poodle, Choc, suddenly dropped a ring box in front of me. And a second later, Chengwu was kneeling in front of me, asking: ‘Will you marry me’” The couple knew they wanted to wed in Ako’s hometown, in Japan, so they did “lots of online research” of venues before they travelled over there and decided on Hyakka-rou in Nagoya. “The venue had a chapel with beautiful stained glass, but then the reception area was a very traditional Japanese setting with a beautiful garden. It was the combination of classic and traditional Japanese. And that was what I was looking for.” Visit the link in bio to go inside this wedding 📷 Masanori Hirata
Gloria Vanderbilt, American fashion designer, artist, author and heiress, died on Monday 17 June 2019, aged 95. Throughout her life, Vanderbilt operated at the nexus of American society–first as an heiress and later through her myriad career ventures, social life and four marriages. But it was in the late 1970s, with the launch of her eponymous denim line in collaboration with Murjani, that Vanderbilt experienced her greatest financial and critical success. “She’s tried to do many, many things for many, many years,” reflected her friend Diane von Furstenberg in 1979. “The thing that you least associated her with—jeans—worked.” Tap the link in bio to look back on the remarkable life of Gloria Vanderbilt. 📷 Horst P. “I always imagined I would walk into a store and buy my dress off the rack. I knew that it wouldn’t be a traditional wedding gown.
