Thank you @whoisivanna for writing so accurately about me and my music for the @metrotimes.

Last night was a dream. I’ve always deeply desired to release my music through experiences- experiences that bring people (women) together to have real, authentic, in-person encounters that push us to explore and unpack who we are. I cannot thank @staylaced_don, @footlockerdetroit and @footlockerwomen enough for believing in me and “More Cake” enough to make that dream a reality and for allowing me to curate a SIT DOWN DINNER (I was adamant about that part lol) in a sneaker store. I could go on and on about the food, the drinks, the decor, the dessert, the fashion + shopping experience (I mean, we got to buy the Satin 1s at retail, somebody shout hallelujah), and our incredible vendors. But the icing on the cake (pun intended) was ending the night in an honest and vulnerable collective conversation where we shared our truths, our experiences, our joy, our pain, and our lessons together with open hearts. I really do mean it when I say that this is my dream- to write songs, put them out and have conversations about them. So to every woman in the room, thank you for making a dream come true. 🧡 #AllWomenWelcome #MoreCake

Women are pushed and programmed to imagine themselves as someone else’s before we understand that we are our own. And in turn, we tend to celebrate romantic relationships, engagements and weddings more fiercely than we celebrate ourselves, our platonic bonds, our graduations, our promotions, our milestones and moments that are centered solely in US. But there’s more cake than wedding cake, and whether you’re single, divorced, married or have no desire to ever be a wife, there’s an inherent value, an idea, a dream, a desire inside of you that deserves attention- that deserves celebration. I feel so lucky to be smack dab in the middle of these women. A myriad of different seasons and statuses- all taking up space unapologetically within their fields. Having their cake and eating it too. @yolandawlms, @toniwcjones, @nae2curly and @connectwithlo will all be joining me and @footlockerwomens + @footlockerdetroit as our special guests this Friday for the celebration of ‘All Women Welcome’ and ‘More Cake’. . Our guests will get a chance to hear their stories and ask them questions as relates to navigating the matters of their hearts and their dreams. And we couldn’t be happier to have them. 🎂 #AllWomenWelcome #MoreCake

I woke up Monday morning with extreme anxiety. Chest tight. Sleep was piss poor because my to-do list was just looping in my dreams. . This anxiety was different though. It’s not my normal “wtf are you doing with your life, Charity??” anxiety. This kind is “whoa. God really said yes to all those grandiose requests in my affirmation journal and now I gotta execute everything I visualized.” So I put my own spin on a scripture I’ve always loved (Phil. 4:7) and decided I just needed to stare at these words all week. . It is also dawning on me that if I can manifest tangible things, I most certainly can manifest the peace I need to show up fully for all of them. Someone told me that @bigsean shared that he writes his affirmations in a gold pen and signs the bottom of the page like a king would sign a decree. So I even bought a new gold pen and a new (orange, duh) affirmation journal, because I’m really seeing the power in intentionally writing and speaking things that are not as though they were (come on saints) and watching them come to be. . Now what words are you living by right now? ✨

Mike and I met at our beloved HBCU Tennessee State our freshman year. - We were both the artists on campus so people put us together way before we did so ourselves. We wrote and performed a song together that year, just as friends, called “Can’t Let Go”. When I think about the lyrics it’s kinda eerie almost like we we wrote it from the future, and we felt so much in both creating and performing it that we both left the stage feeling like “wtf, are we soulmates or something??” 😂 - We, years later, explored that possibility. And like most college couples, we’ve explored it amidst pursuing dreams that have placed us in different locations, and all the challenges that come along with being too young and underdeveloped and immature to be so damn deeply committed. - But here we are, several years, songs and stages later-still cities apart but more in sync than ever. We’re both mostly quiet about us. Neither of us are mushy gushy or massive fans of PDA, but I’m a lil bit over that. Because just like those freshman year moments over music that brought us together, who we are deserves volume & sound, and because I understand finally that if you want to go fast- go alone, but if you want to go far- go together. - We go together.
