I’ve been posting a lot of hoops on barns lately because they’re everywhere. Midday is not ideal when photographing but sometimes you have to make do when you find something to photograph while traveling. I sent them here, the second floor of a barn in Indiana that belonged to the grandpa of my college roommate. They made a short film that Larry Bird narrated and it aired during the Final 4 a couple years back. It highlighted the idea that the Midwest is the heart of basketball in US. Hoops were put up in barns so that basketball could be played in the winter months. We climbed a ladder and moved a large wooden plank out of the way to uncover this space. Rusty nails stuck out of all the walls so a bad pass would have resulted in a flat basketball and game over. Those wooden planks made it hard for anyone to drive in for a layup but if jumped off of could help anyone who was too short to go in for a dunk.
