Debra’s blue eyes pop against the pink canvas and her pale skin, which intrigues the viewer. Married to Greek shipping magnate, Vardis Vardinoyannis, Mrs.Vardinoyannis is a powerful force within the world of philanthropy. She is a Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO, founder and president of the “Marianna V. Vardinoyannis Foundation”, of the “ELPIDA Friends’ Association of Children with cancer” and of the “Orama Elpida Association”. .Her blue eyes, which pierce against the canvas' paler background color, bring her to life in this silkscreen. This blue ovoid, “Untitled (Blue Solid)” 2006 resembles the instance when gravity pulls a drop of water toward the surface: elongated and flattened. Perhaps his use here of an intensely saturated blue shade is a precursor to his attraction to the world’s blackest pigment, Vantablack.
