During intermission, I roamed the beautiful estate. Here is one of the many views I enjoyed. #vanderbiltestate #centerport #abc7nyOpening Night of Julius Caesar at the Vanderbilt Estate Summer 2019I am taking a break from all my L.A. edits to post some photos from the opening night of Julius Caesar performed by the @carriagehouseplayers at the @vanderbiltmuseum in Centerport, N.Y. - directed by @christineboehm and sponsored by @bankofamerica . The performance was incredible. There’s still time to see the play. It’s running until September 1st. The play is performed in the breathtaking courtyard of the Vanderbilt Estate; you will wonder if you are still in America while in this courtyard as it is reminiscent of Spain. During intermission, you can roam the estate and enjoy the sun setting on boats. I will soon post edits of my intermission wanderings. This photo is taken of the audience before a glowing stage. I took the photo during intermission. This cultural experience is unparalleled. Some of my favorite parts were unexpected interpretations. The soothsayer was depicted by a multi-tiered contraption made of black gauze that encircled the audience; the ghost of Caesar appeared several times, and Brutus spoke to the ghost in more scenes than I had expected; when Brutus and Antony addressed the Roman crowd, the audience was part of that crowd; and Portia’s death was not only spoken about by Brutus and Cassius as in the original play, but also re-enacted by Portia herself (red rose petals were part of this re-enactment) on the staircase after which she linked arms with Caesar’s ghost and walked away.
