I’ve had the most wonderful time in Edinburgh! It’s such a beautiful city and I have met so many old and new friends here. You can still catch my stories for lots of photos of the festival. Unfortunately I missed the Diversity discussion but I will catch it on video when it becomes available. Thanks @edinyarnfest for an incredible show!I decided to be comfy for my Edinburgh trip in my @namedclothing Esme cardigan, @seamworkmag Tacarah and Hudson pants. I changed into something less scruffy for the knit night 😂 Also, flower wall of dreams on my road, it’s so pretty in the Spring 😍I closed the door on this view before leaving for Edinburgh today! It’s been a really busy few weeks so I’m planning to have a proper rest (I’m especially looking forward to not being woken up by my 3 year old every night). I also just had a weird experience on the train when a guy tried to steal the ball of wool I was using to knit my jumper 😳 I managed to get it off him in the end!{AD- Gift} Last week I spent the day making delicious macarons with @mondessert using their easy to use kits. My sister and I learned to make these beautiful macarons (mine are raspberry and hers were the green pistachio ones) and I was surprised to find it was quite straightforward and fun! We filled the macarons with flavoured white chocolate ganache and decorated them. It’s a lovely activity to do with friends or for a birthday. This week I am going to Edinburgh for the Yarn Festival but also to have a much anticipated break. Meanwhile please let me know your favourite things to do in Edinburgh so I can try and squeeze them in!Yesterday I heard the devastating news about Christchurch and it was only later in the evening that I had time to reflect on what had happened. That a man welcomed the terrorist in with a smile and ‘welcome, brother’. That a small child went to Friday prayers with his father and was gunned down. That people had cheered while the terrorist streamed his sickening act online. ⁣⁣Then I realised that the tools of structural racism and Islamophobia were already digging the knife in further. Australian senator Fraser Anning blamed immigration, not right wing extremism for this attack. The tabloids wondered how a sweet child turned into a ‘killer’. People said, how could this happen? ⁣⁣It happens when we make it ok to dehumanise another community. If you mourned the victims of terror in London and Manchester with Facebook posts, profile pic changes and Instagram Stories, did you feel the same about Muslim victims of terror yesterday? Did you identify with those families in the same way? We need to understand that tolerating intolerance and hatred around us leads to terror. It’s a lovely way to get children interested in nature and quite fun to see the results! I’ve been doing a bit of sewing this weekend including the skirt I’m wearing here, and today I’ll be making a cake for a very special occasion tomorrow ❤️Happy International Women’s Day! When I started using Instagram to share my projects and inspiration, I never realised it would allow me to share what it means to be a Muslim woman in the modern world. As a mother, I teach my sons and daughter to value women, and they see that reflected in the strong women around them who stand up for their values and contribute to society. As a professional, I work hard to earn respect from my patients and colleagues. And as an individual, I am proud to do my bit in creating a more equal and inclusive community.
