Rita Farmer (@mamacita.rita) never learned to play an instrument — but she managed to collect (and photograph) a beautiful brass selection for this month’s hashtag project, #MHPinstrumental.

The goal of this month’s hashtag project, #MHPinstrumental, was to make photos and videos that celebrate the tools of the music trade. We selected some of our favorite submissions, which we’ll be featuring throughout the weekend on @music — including this image by Lori Gutman (@lorigutmanphotos) of James Bay (@jamesbaymusic) rocking out on the guitar in Montreal.

#MHPinstrumental is all about making creative photos and videos featuring — you guessed it — instruments. Our favorite submission of the week comes from 19-year-old college student Antonio Gonzalez (@adg.photography) with this portrait of the indie band Triangle Fire alongside their respective instrumental companions.
For a chance to be featured on @music, submit your own photo or video taken this month of a favorite or surprising instrument by adding the hashtag. Any tagged visual is eligible to be featured. If you use music in your video submissions, please only use music to which you own the rights.

“I always try to separate my profession and my passions,” says 27-year-old Gustavo Adolfo Olaizola (@unmedico) from Mexico, who is a physician by day and writes poetry and plays the violin in his spare time. Gustavo made this image of some of his artistic inspirations for this month’s hashtag project, #MHPinstrumental.

Monthly Hashtag Project: #MHPinstrumental
The goal of this month’s hashtag project is to make photos and videos that celebrate the tools of the music trade. From pianos to didgeridoos, show us the most surprising sources of music you can find and share. Seek out local musicians or friends and make a still or video portrait of them playing. If you’re going to a concert, try getting up close to the stage to photograph a whole band in action. And, get creative! Look around for instrument makers. Visit a music shop or classroom to capture instruments in a variety of contexts.
PROJECT RULES: Please add the #MHPinstrumental hashtag only to photos and videos taken this month and only submit your own. Any tagged visual taken this month is eligible to be featured. If you use music in your video submissions, please only use music to which you own the rights.
