What's in the water you ask? Well, that depends. If you find yourself in the the Matsu archipelago off the coast of China in the beginning of summer on a dark cloudy night with the tide coming in, chances are you will catch a glimpse of Noctiluca scintillans, a bioluminescent dinoflagellate that lives in our oceans. Our work-in-progress installation about this, dubbed the same name as the Matsu natives call the phenomenon- Blue Tears– is an immersive film installation that blurs the lines between the ecological and the magical. We're currently seeking funding to finish the project and are looking for spaces to host it. Tell your friends who like sparkly things that we should talk. - YYL. #earthday #thefamily

Coachella!! This week in FAMILY history: “The year was 2016. The artist was Joey Bada$$. The stage was... the main one.

A few days before the show we arrived in LA to rehearse. Not knowing if Joey was going to stick to the setlist (this is Brooklyn hip-hop you better believe it’s all live) we had to prepare visuals for anything. Even the iconic moment when he yells “got dragon balls like my name was Vegeta” and we surprised him by throwing up a Vegeta on one of the biggest festival stages in America (seen in picture 3). Or how on the night of Prince's passing we put together a quick clip in his honor, then weekend 2 Joey surprised us all by playing Prince's 1999 (last picture). I even remember Joey playing us an unreleased song called “Devastated” that he was considering performing. It was stuck in our head for weeks and later went on to become a Platinum selling single. #OMWtogreatness

It was my first VJ gig and definitely wasn’t my last as we travelled the world performing live stage visuals with him for the next 2 years.” -SD.

We’ve had the privilege of seeing this wizard capture massive photogrammetry models of buildings, all the way down to super tiny microscopic footage of glowing dinoflagellates (pictured here in Taiwan).
