I’m writing this post about the upcoming midterm elections on November 6th, in which I’ll be voting in the state of New York. In the past I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions, as I am a woman and have been informed by twitter that all my thoughts are the hysterical result of a heavy flow day and witchcraft. But Taylor Swift’s instagram post caused more people to register on vote.org in 24 hours than during the entire month of August, so I feel very differently about that now.
Obviously, I always have and always will cast my vote based on what my coven decides will most quickly bring about the destruction of all men, but I agree with Taylor that everyone should educate themselves on the candidates running in their state and vote based on who most closely represents their values. For a lot of us, we may never find a candidate or party with whom we agree 100% on every issue, but we have to vote anyway, as well as cast a few election spells.
So many intelligent, thoughtful, self-possessed witches have turned 18 in the past two years and now have the right and privilege to make their vote count. But first you need to register, which is quick and easy to do. (No wands, you have to use your phone!) Today is the LAST DAY to register to vote in Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas. Go to vote.org and you can find all the info. Happy Voting, witches!
And thanks, Taylor for taking a stand. You would make a great witch... call me!
