🕛🕚🕙🕘🕗 We're rewinding the clock to 2015. This was a year that saw more Mexican immigrants leaving the U.S. than arriving. It was also the year that the indigenous artist collective Postcommodity launched “Repellent Fence,” a project to create the largest binational land art installation ever exhibited on the U.S./Mexico border. Comprised of 26 tethered "scare eye" balloons, each one 10 feet in diameter, the artwork was in effect a temporary two-mile-long sculpture at the center point of the largest and most densely fortified militarized zone in the Western Hemisphere. Using techniques like paper marbling, gold leaf gilding, and leather bookbinding, the private press has printed and published original works by John Updike, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, @barackobama, and more—with some books finding their way into the permanent collections of @metmuseum, @smithsonian, the White House, and the Vatican.
