#mondaymunchies time! Because “It’s Monday, the week is long, and we’re hungry 😕”
.
It’s hard enough to resist an iced latte - but when that latte comes dripping in sprinkles and adorned with a whipped cream helmet 😳😳😳... “just leave the biodegradable straw and step slowly away from the vehicle” 🙂
.
This Toffee Nut and Vanilla iced latte (the “Call Me Maybe”) is calling for our undivided attention as well as some restraint... because we’re determined to palm that whipped cream in one hand while drinking the latte in the other 🙃

🎼It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood
A beautiful day for a neighbor
Could you be mine?
Would you be mine?
.
It's a neighborly day in this beauty wood
A neighborly day for a beauty
Could you be mine?
Would you be mine?
.
I have always wanted to have a neighbor just like you
I've always wanted to live in a neighborhood with you
.
Let's make the most of this beautiful day
Since we're together, might as well say
Would you be my, could you be my
Won't you be my neighbor?🎼

So the biblical flooding has ceased for the moment🤞, and it also happens to be the first day of summer. So for us, it looks like all roads lead towards... Margarita!!🎊

Hey there 👋, it’s been awhile since we talked about our awesome canvas totes. And considering we’re knee deep in Farmer’s Market and Beach season, they’re kind of perfect 👍. I mean look at how seamlessly Halie carries her wine, romaine lettuce and baguette 💁‍♀️ (just your standard Long Island grocery list 😂).
.
Halie no doubt will be taking her lettuce to the beach for a picnic where her durable 100% cotton canvas does her best work. And the art designed by @jackiemaloney.artist will be sure to turn heads (as will the sight of a Long Island mother alternating between chowing down on a baguette and chugging a bottle of wine in the sand 😀)... But we digress. These are good bags 👌😉

Thursday night ‘meet & greet’ with a supremely important non-profit on our beautiful Island which also happens to be one of our supremely talented makers: “The East End Food Institute” @eastendfood / “South Fork Kitchens” - living proof that what makes good business sense can often times be something that just makes sense.
•
"Throughout the United States the small family farm is really struggling," says Kate Fullam, Executive Director of the East End Food Institute. "And the East End of Long Island faces significant challenges - geography, seasonal tourism, high cost of land and business operations. 2/3 of farms on Long Island are under 50 acre plots and 1/3 are between 1 and 9 acres of land. Most of them have to highly leverage the retail margins through sales during the tourist seasons, so we're trying to help these family farms wholesale and create value added goods in order to survive."
•
Originally founded in 2010 as the Amagansett Food Institute (by food business owners in Amagansett looking to combat a tough economic climate), the Institute has expanded its scope in recent years to tackle food distribution issues throughout the region in an effort to create a more sustainable, equitable and smarter food system. For example, their 2018 Farm to Community Program brokered deals between local farms and @long_island_cares Harry Chapin Food Bank to sell their surplus food at low wholesale rates to people in the community in need.
•
"The food system is kind of broken," says Kate. "It's actually easier to get food that has traveled hundreds or sometimes thousands of miles than it is to get food from right up the road from the person who grew it. Which is puzzling, right?
•
In 2014 the Institute took over the underutilized Stony Brook Southampton Commercial Kitchen and converted it into South Fork Kitchens, a regional center for producing value added goods for farms, aggregating and processing surplus produce and as rental space for food entrepreneurs not quite ready to commit to brick and mortar. Notable achievements include...

(1976) The unofficial second home for Long Islanders at one point dotted the Island with over 70 locations! (before dwindling to a mere 5 and switching ownership) A suburban oasis for parents in need of bread and milk... or for those craving quick cigarettes, iced tea and a box of Ho-Hos 🙂 (though you could venture inside and shop if you wanted 😃🙅‍♀️). A daytime clerk at the Syosset Dairy Barn told the New York Times in 2005 "We see at least 10 people a day in pajamas." And now a little history:
.
"The Dairy Barn story begins in Switzerland in the late 1930's. Edgar Cosman, a textile manufacturer, sent his 22 year-old son, Dieter, to work in the family's parachute cord factory in New Bedford, Massachusetts. When Edgar came to the States for a visit with a ticket to return on the cruise ship Normandy, World War II broke out and the Normandy was commandeered into service for the military.
.
Edgar found himself stranded in New York and decided to buy a dairy farm on Long Island. The farm was losing money. Edgar Cosman left it up to his son Dieter to manage the failing East Northport milk farm and make it profitable. This was 1939, by the late 1940's Dieter had developed the Oak Tree Farm Dairy into a thriving wholesale milk business.
.
But by the late 1950's, people were no longer interested in having their milk delivered to their homes, so once again Dieter Cosman needed to reinvent his business. That's when Dieter came up with the concept of a "drive- thru" convenience store. (Note: Perhaps following the booming trend of the fast food industry) The first Dairy Barn store opened in 1961, and was popular right from the start. It looked just like the ones you see today, from the barn-shaped store with the little red silo, to the two canopied driveways."

#mondaymunchies time! Because “It’s Monday, the week is long, and we’re hungry 😕”
.
A hot fudge sundae made out of rainbow cookies?! We won’t lie, we might have a problem sharing a bite. We aren’t above running and locking ourselves in the bathroom and enjoying this cone so our kids don’t see (for their own good of course 🙂).
.
Almond cake layered with hot fudge and caramel sauce topped with a dark chocolate drip, rainbow sprinkles and a maraschino 🍒... and if you want to add some whipped cream from the bottle hidden in the bathroom cupboard that’s your prerogative 😉 .

🎼Passing through, passing through.
Sometimes happy, sometimes blue,
Glad that I ran into you.
Tell the people that you saw me passing through.
.
I saw adam leave the garden with an apple in his hand,
I said "now you're out, what are you going to do? "
"plant some crops and pray for rain, maybe raise a little cane.
I'm an orphan now, and I'm only passing through."
.
Passing through, passing through.
Sometimes happy, sometimes blue,
Glad that I ran into you.
Tell the people that you saw me passing through
.
I was with Washington at valley ford, shivering in the snow.
I said, "how come the men here suffer like they do? "
"men will suffer, men will fight, even die for what is right
Even though they know they're only passing through"
.
