The Taino People* believed that their supreme god, Yocahu (Yukiyu) lived in El Yunque and that he resided in the mountain tops. The Taínos believed that Yukiyú fought with his brother Juracán (Hurricane deity ) to protect his people in Borikén. . He represented goodness. This contrasts with his evil brother Juracán, who was responsible for storms. This war on our people isn't over. Juracán has not won. Puerto Rican's are resilient! Boriken will persevere! Our ancestors are behind us. The diaspora is coming together and remembering.
Good will always win.

.PSA: If you've ever used PR as a cute little vacation spot or indulged in the culture, you better be out here helping.
.
. I'll be participating on a fundraiser soon but for now❗️Please donate in any way you can. There are many drop off locations for supplies and you can also donate to the Mariafund.com. However, the island does not have enough man power to distribute all these donations, and the people on the island are still in desperate need! People are dying, so please PUT PRESSURE ON YOUR SENATORS AND CONGRESSMAN TO FACILITATE EMERGENCY AID AND BOOTS ON THE GROUND TO PR! LET THEM KNOW THEY NEED TO SUSPEND THE JONES ACT IN ORDER TO BENEFIT FROM RECOVERY EFFORTS❗️ ----------------------------------------------------

🌞Looking at all the tragic updates about Puerto Rico has my soul hurting. I've been praying to my ancestors and they are hurting.
.
.I've been thinking a lot about this moment at La Mina Falls. How my love and I searched for rocks to grind up into paint, and while we decorated our bodies with the sacred symbols of the Tainos, we could feel our ancestors energy surrounding us, blessing us. I've never felt more connected than I did in that moment. Hahom Yaya. Daka Taino. 🌞

Looking at photos of El Yunque destroyed is breaking my heart.
----------------------------------------------------
.The day before this photo was taken, I had an ego death. As I saw life break up into tiny kaleidoscope pieces, Atabey sang soothing melodies of love through the warm winds of Borikén to comfort me. Bliss, bliss, bliss.
She told me I was home.
.
.The next day I was reborn. I played and laughed in La Mina Falls en El Yunque.
I let her sweet river water baptize me.
Bliss.
My soul was home.

Here are some options if you're trying to find out about your loved ones in PR:
.▪ Contact the island’s disaster relief team by e-mailing maria1@prfaa.pr.gov
.
.Because of high volume, leaders are asking that you only send one email — no follow-ups — unless the status of your loved one has changed.
Include your contact information and as many details about your family member or friend as possible.
.
.▪ Call the Washington D.C. office at 202-800-3133 or 202-778-0710
.
.Staffers are taking names and numbers and developing plans to check the welfare of people who remain unreachable or missing as the island begins to recover. Officials say getting through to someone over the phone has been difficult because of backed-up phone lines.
.
.▪ Call the island’s local radio station WIPR at 787-777-0940
