Long story short, my mother was an alcoholic and drug addict who was emotionally abusive and neglectful in many ways. Most of the time we both felt a deep heaviness connected to the constant turbulence that manifested in our relationship. And after years of disrespect and disfunction, I truly believed that we were a hopeless cause. Still, I always felt love for my mother. There were just more times than not where I wanted nothing to do with her. Remembering what caused that level of pain brings tears to my eyes — not because of the hardship but because I don’t feel that way anymore and what once felt impossible became an undeniable reality. As a result of both of us desiring a healthier pattern, we engaged in some intentional healing work, which eventually shifted our dynamic and changed our relationship forever. My mother went from being the biggest monster in my life to one of the most generous, giving, supportive, transformative beings I’ve ever known. And while our relationship is definitely not perfect, I can truthfully say that major shifts have occurred and the evolution of our relationship continues to unfold in unbelievable ways. Our story is birthed in oceans of pain but it’s also sprinkled with miraculous miracles. And I look forward to sharing what lead to those miracles in our upcoming “Healing Mother Wounds” workshop.⠀ ⠀.This workshop is for womyn who desire healing in their relationship with their mothers. And I can testify that this work ripples into all of our relationships; including the relationship with our children, our partners, our friends, our creativity, our career, our community and of course ourselves. Thank you for all that you gave and blessed us with 🙏🏾.. #tonimorrison #artist #writer #changemaker #revolutionary #healer #ancestor #ripangel😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣.. #repost @nobodyjonesboutiquecollective evolution cannot happen without authenticity and yet making authentic choices may leave some folks feeling excluded. it‘s not always an easy decision but it’s a practice i believe is valuable for everyone to engage in. to be guided by discernment keeps us in alignment with integrity and supports a world where the foundation is built on the pillars of truthfulness. this means that in the process of evolving, feelings will get hurt, and sometimes we are the ones feeling hurt and left out. which often times not only brings up emotional pain and possibly disappointment in others but also triggers insecurities of not being enough. and yet that’s the beautiful, bittersweet part — that we have an opportunity for growth. an opportunity to deepen conscious love for ourselves instead of seeking it in places that may not be able to reciprocate. and while trying not to hurt feelings is a lofty attempt and ideal when applicable, i think we also have to surrender to the fact that it will happen and that maybe it’s not always a bad thing. maybe that exclusion awakens someone in a way that supports their inner growth and sometimes the growth of the relationship that is desired. at the very least it’s an opportunity to dig deeper into our inner work and tend to what’s calling to be healed. and when we answer that call, hopefully we come out the other side feeling more in our power. not as easily offended. remembering our worth. and when it applies, perhaps not seeking out unbalanced relationships that trigger old wounds. let us nurture relationships where connection is easy, organic, and their is an undeniable mutual love. let us see the best in each other and remember that most of us really are doing the best we can with the tools we got. may we remember we are deserving of pure love and all good things in our grasp. may we appreciate the quality relationships we have that honor our light. and when feelings do get hurt, may forgiveness blow in the wind as we remember our wholeness and reflect that back into all hearts that cross our path.⠀.................................................... #SheHealHer #AuthenticityIsBeautiful ⠀📷 by @sundarhyaAs someone who’s been a witness to loved ones struggling with substance abuse, mental health disorders and facing injustice within our broken criminal justice system, I can testify that healing and transformation is more than possible. So many give up on those who struggle with tests they can’t relate to. But then their are those who understand that it’s simply not right to kick folks when they’re already down. Especially disadvantaged communities that usually don’t have equal access to resources that will help them renew and rebuild their lives. This is why I’m so grateful for the opportunity to collab with LA’s Health Services: Diversion and Reentry program. One of my favorite things about teaching workshops like this is watching some folks enter the space feeling down, guarded and suspect of my work and then leaving with a smile, happy heart and open to the magic and medicine that movement has to offer.
