/Swipe left/Together Rising stands with the people of Sudan who are courageously and peacefully protesting 30 years of violent oppression at the hands of their own government. .We are outraged with, and are mourning for, the brave citizens who who have been tormented for these many years. And, over the last ten days, for the more than 100 citizens who have been killed, the dozens of women and men raped, the 19 children slaughtered (and 49 more injured) and the hundreds beaten, and arrested, and the bodies dumped into the Nile by armed forces of their own government. .We condemn this violence, tyranny and bloodshed. We see and affirm the Sudanese people as they risk their lives peacefully demanding to be free. We stand with the people of Sudan who today struggle to access food and medical care during this watershed moment in their fight for freedom. .Today, Together Rising pledged a $100,000 investment in the lives of the Sudanese people: in improved access to clean water, sanitation, and agricultural management for internally displaced peoples of Sudan, as well as microenterpise development, association building, improved market inclusion for the women of Sudan. The Sudanese people are risking their lives for freedom, and it is right that we invest in their lives as they rise from this tyranny and lead their country forward.Thank you. Did you know that – even though the majority of individuals in homeless shelters are women and children – some of the hardest supplies for homeless shelters to stock are feminine hygiene products and bras? Please meet Holly. Five years ago, she learned these facts, and it broke her heart that women and girls in homeless shelters -- who are going through the hardest times in their lives -- don’t have access to these everyday items that so many of us take for granted. Holly decided to do something about it. She threw a party and asked guests to bring tampons, new bras and underwear. Eventually, she founded BRAWS (Bringing Resources To Aid Women’s Shelters) – which last year alone gave away 2,384 new bras, 4,846 pairs of new underwear, and 141,480 tampons and pads, and partnered with schools and shelters to launch public dispenser programs so women and girls have access to free feminine products. Together Rising exists to turn our collective heartbreak into collective action, so we love the way Holly channeled her heartbreak from a problem in her community into fuel to create change. We also LOVE work that don’t just “help” -- but underscores the dignity of people working so hard to rise. That’s why – because of your fierce generosity to Together Rising -- we donated $5,000 to BRAWS for the purchase and distribution of underwear, tampons and bras – including individual bra-fitting sessions for women and girls in homeless shelters. These camps were full of brave families who endured terrifying journeys across the sea in overcrowded plastic dinghies in order to escape torture and death.There were now no diapers for the thousands of precious little ones. The filth and desperation were rampant – fathers were literally taking their last shirts off their backs, and tearing them up to create makeshift diapers for their babies.You all stepped in and said: There is no such thing as other people’s children. That day, you sent $75,000 for diapers for the babies, and food for the families.In total, through Together Rising, you have given $4,851,117.20 to provide food, shelter, warmth, and medical teams, equipment and treatment to refugees across the world.Thank you for showing up 2 years ago, last week, and every time we ask you.
