I still remember the intoxicating aromas, noises of the Medina in Tangier. The rush. I remember the pistachio maryjanes Baba bought me from a shoe shop. The choking fumes from diesel engines along the port. The coast of Spain in view across the Strait of Gibraltar on a cloudless morning. Afternoons of Fanta and mint tea poured in long streams from silver tea kettles. Breaking bread over chicken Tagine and couscous. Heated summer naps until sundown.. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Travel has been making, breaking, rebuilding me since birth. It was priceless seeing the estate in real life this past March. Co-workers marvel at the fact that I flaunt my femininity, even in one of the most male dominated industries. Wearing dresses, a-line skirts in bright pinks and prints; bold jewelry; high heels even at 5'9" everydamnday. I'm a woman. Unapologetically. And like Marie, there is no compromise between female and power; expression and success. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀And, yes. Yes. I touched just about about every pink marble column in the place while dragging around my history book all day.Living in palm tree heaven.
