I met Brandon when I was thirteen years old and we were instant friends in our tiny weirdo nerdy school. He’s a great friend, wonderful father, loving husband, loyal brother and amazing creative. Taking family photos of him, his gorgeous wife and their adorable daughter was an honor and our near 25 year friendship is a gift. #aprojectinportraits #OakCliff #TAGMagnet

"It used to be that, each December, I’d round up my standby list of nonprofits and make a reliable end-of-year contribution. It was a well intentioned yet slightly dispassionate habit. A bill paid rather than a load shared.
That changed over the past few years. My own understanding of justice and equity grew, and I felt that my list of annual donations wasn’t enough anymore. I began to wonder: if the work of organizations like the Innocence Project is ongoing, then why isn’t my donation
Because of this greater desire to contribute to work I believe in, I became a monthly supporter of the Innocence Project. And it’s strange…even though this monthly contribution could seem like more of a bill than the annual gifts Iused to make, the reality is that it feels exactly the opposite: it’s a recognition that the cause of justice belongs to all of us. All the time." —Jerrika Hinton, California
🎪 Tatiana and I met at a community night hosted by fellow magicwoman @melodyehsani. We connected over a love of dance and, so, I was thrilled when she wanted to be a part of the series. For our session we explored movement and, as it turns out, a little bit of tutu magic. #aprojectinportraits #photography @tatianazamir

✨ Yaani and I frequently crossed paths during my early years in LA because we tried out for the same #blactress roles. It’s hard to get to know someone in an audition waiting room, so I’m quite grateful for this time together many years later. She’s a beautifully grounded woman with a great spark in her spirit. For our session, we played make believe. #aprojectinportraits #photography #afrofuturist @yaanikingmonds

💅🏾 Nicole and I are beautiful proof that url can be irl. We met on #socialmedia in the days of Grey’s Anatomy and eventually became real-life friends. She’s clever, hilarious, thoughtful, steadfast and shares my love of brown liquor. For our session, we explored comfort in front of the camera. I love how infectious her laugh is and that you feel it through the screen.

🍯 Marshel and I recently discovered this is our nineteenth year of acquaintance. We met in undergrad and, for as long as I’ve known her, she’s been a powerful woman of mystery. So, our intimate time together for this project truly ranks high on my list of joys. For our session, we played with power and drama. I think these honey-toned photos run thick with both.

⏳ Claudia and I first met on the dance floor. We shared a who-gives-a-fuck-if-no-one’s-dancing spirit and twirled with each other all night long. Four years later, she’s one of my closest confidants with an inspiring joie de vivre. For her session, we stumbled upon a story about time and waiting for the right moment. Which, for us, is any moment.
