its no secret that the practice of yoga inspires wild creativity- so its is time to break out your art supplies, cameras, computers + pens because our first annual #artyoheartout community #challenge is underway.
the âchallengeâ is to use oneâs art to depict or express a specific theme. and the artistic theme for our first go around is FLOW.
submitted works will be judged on how creatively + skillfully they communicate this theme. i encourage you to think about all the uses + meanings of âflowâ when planning your creations.
the artyoheartchallenge artists will be displayed & celebrated at our gathering on july 20th
anyone + everyone is eligible to participate.
you have plenty of time to plan + produce your entry. submissions are due by july 13th
so letâs get the creative juices flowing family!
itâs 100% FREE to enter this challenge and i hope that youâll take part.
our evening will also be complemented by the sounds of local musicians + spoken word provided by my beautiful friend @jay_donz

this photo was taken four years ago to the day. i had just finishing my teacher training @yogaholicny and was blessed by the sweetest soul @lifebyalexarae & offered an opportunity to share the love at her beautiful studio.
I am so very grateful for this space and her trust in my ability because this is where it truly all began.

when I entered my teacher training i didnât plan on teaching, I was just so curious as to why my life was flourishing and evolving in such wonderous ways from time spent on the mat. i was craving knowledge and direction and google just wasnât doing the trick anymore so i dove in.
teacher training is a life-changing experience, but it really just is the very beginning of something so big& so beautiful. soul awakening.
and in hindsight it was life training.

if youâve taken my classes before I talk about the #yoga toolbox. đ¤
and what I mean when I say this is we move through the practice, trainings, classes, learning certain things that donât quite make sense at the moment...alignment cues, philosophy, teachings... but at some point something clicks, sticks and suddenly makes sense.
that hammer of deep truthfulness - #satya - cracking down when itâs most needed, the roofing shingles of contentment - #santosha - to help us weather storm while simultaneously appreciating the abundant beauty that is all around.

but the most remarkable thing we come to learn is that all of these tools are already inside of us. they were perhaps dormant or we just didnât know what the fuck to do with them.
and what a training provides and teaches us is how to use these tools in our worlds. to show us how to hold them, operate them & maneuver them so that we cannot only better our lives, save ourselves, but the lives around us.
and that is why I decided to teach. because to learn something so valuable, life altering and liberating, it seemed too selfish to keep it to myself...to share the love, to alleviate suffering, provide hope and to empower others in the same way that i was unleashed in my training.

the light, miraculously always pours in when we need it most.

life -living life- is one hell of a fucking journey, and it sure as hell ainât for the faint of heart.
that is, the conscious decision, to LIVE life rather than just simply existing.
and as I lay here on the now clean studio floor at 3pm on a Saturday, where classes ended hours ago but the universe said stay.. iâm finally beginning to process some of the out of this world #magic that occurred today, but really is a regular occurrence for our beautiful #patchoguevillage location.
from sleepy, eager smileâs by the early morning movers, that came complete with fresh eggs and birthday flowers -and the most heartfelt vulnerable loving card Iâve received in a while-with more hugs and bubbly conversation then we knew what to do with! so we flowed. hard. passionately and deeply.creating soul shaking, mind melting #artinmotion - together.
commencing round one with a sweet effortless #aum and more connection as our beloved 945 crew came strolling in.. fusing effortlessly into the still vibrating energy we created, and then took it to the next level- a completely unique but equally as beautiful experience complimented with a couple teddy bears down dogging in the back đ

so, like I quite often do after teaching, I stay for a bit to process, feel, and obviously clean up all the sweat, glitter and what have you, to have a fresh dance for the next time.. i was blessed to be immersed in conversation with my beautiful soul sister @vibewithmev , as countless people came in curious and intrigued as to what was happening in our little speakeasy back here in #Patchogue ... maybe they saw the light...felt it. were drawn to it.
reflected it.
because everyone that walked in, new students and old, curious bypassers, and even those folks just looking to use the bathroom, all fed this beaming light. all.
i donât really know where Iâm going with all this, but so #grateful to be united through the practice of #yoga .
and what we do here @_cocomotion_ is perhaps #elevated just a little bit more, because it is truly #movement & #acceptance for all here + feeling so #blessed to be a part of it. âŹď¸continued

art YO heart out challenge | july 20th | 5pm | patchogue village @_cocomotion_
the submissions (and many questions!) are already pouring in for our first @divinemadnesscollective community creation challenge so here are some tips family... the goal of this challenge is to... * improve our drawing, painting, mark-making skills
* experiment innovative ways of art-making
* land on new ideas that wouldnât have emerged otherwise
* have fun
* inspire creative thinking
* celebrate the imperfection of our ideas
* think outside of our norms
the rules * size mattersđ - due to the already strong outpouring of interest for this challenge i ask that your works are no larger than 48 x 48. exceptions will be made for early entries, please donât hesitate to reach out!
* nothing is off-limits here, please use all different types of materials and inspiration to release and express your magic!
* new to this whole art thing donât stress, weâre more than happy to help you put wires and hooks in your creations and print photographs!
MISTAKES ARE BLESSINGS!
the goal here isnât to create a masterpiece but rather to unleash our creative energy. our creations donât have to be works of amazing art, and in fact they probably shouldnât be all that spectacular, especially if weâre pushing ourselves to try something new, experimental, & be bold.
be confident with whatever you create, knowing that youâre on a journey to feed your creativity and unleash your #divinemadness family!!
