Don't make assumptions. Speak openly and honestly. Sometimes when we speak honestly we have a tendency to sound rude condescending or disrespectful. On the other side when someone is speaking honestly put ypur defenses down and listen with an open heart. If what they say resonates with you in such a way that it makes you feel prickly consider their words. If what they are saying resonates not at all with you thank them for their insight. Remember for someone to speak openly and honestly with you sometimes takes them very far out of their comfort zone as well.
